The Conservator is a kind of oil storage device for the transformer. Its function is that when the transformer increases the load, the oil temperature rises, and the oil in the tank expands, then too much oil will flow into the conservator. On the contrary, when the temperature drops, the oil in the conservator will flow into the oil tank again and play the role of automatically adjusting the oil level, that is, the conservator plays the role of oil storage and oil replenishing to ensure that the oil tank is full of oil. At the same time, due to the equipment of the conservator the contact surface between the transformer and the air is reduced, and the moisture, dust and oxidized oil scale absorbed from the air are deposited in the deposition at the bottom of the conservator, which greatly slows down the deterioration rate of the transformer oil.

The structure of the conservator: The main body of the conservator is a cylindrical container welded with steel plates, whose volume is about 10% of the volume of the oil tank. The conservator is horizontally installed on the top of the tank, and the oil inside is connected with the transformer tank through the connecting pipeline of the gas relay, so that the oil surface can rise and fall freely with the change of temperature. Under normal conditions, the lowest oil level in the conservator should be higher than the raising seat of the high-pressure casing, and for the casing with a connected structure, the lowest oil level in the conservator should be higher than the top of the casing. A glass oil level gauge (or oil level gauge) is installed on the side of the conservator to observe the change of oil level in the conservator at any time.

The form of transformer conservator

Transformer consevator has three forms: corrugated, capsule, diaphragm.

  1. Capsule type conservator, rubber capsule inside the transformer oil and the external atmosphere separated, and to provide a space for thermal expansion and cold contraction of transformer oil.
  2. Diaphragm type conservator, separated from the external atmosphere by rubber diaphragm, and provides space for thermal expansion and cold contraction of transformer oil.
  3. Corrugated conservator, the metal expander composed of metal corrugated sheets separates the transformer oil from the external atmosphere, and provides the space for thermal expansion and cold contraction of the transformer oil. Corrugated oil pillow is divided into two types: inner oil type and outer oil type. The inner oil type has better performance but larger volume.
